Thank you for posting this Nicholas as I've been confused about some of the email notifications I've received (even today!) & this stack article explains why. (I found this article through searching online for info re: weird substack email notifications on comments.) Did substack admin ever get back to you or Sage cuz this is still happening?? It's a VERY serious security phishing breach of substack's services. :/
I haven't heard from Substack team directly or seen updates from other writers posted about whether or not this has since been resolved. I haven't received any more of these spam notifications myself. If you have gotten phishing emails posing as Substack notifications, I'd suggest reporting it as a content violation as that seems to the only way of raising an issue with an online 'ticket' and might be taken more seriously and responded to faster:
