I've enjoyed some of the burgeoning weed culture here in Bangkok. What I mean is the people in their 20s starting their own little dispensaries - I like their entrepreneurial spirit and, I say this nicely, they probably aren't as well-suited for any other type of business.
The continued masking is so frustrating. Last week we had two very polite Thai men come out to our house to estimate the cost of re-tiling the bathroom. They arrived riding together on a motorscooter, both of them masked. But at the door they took off their shoes AND their masks, came inside to look things over, and when they left they put back on their shoes and masks.
I asked my Thai wife about it and she said people are still figuring out the best cultural rules for mask wearing. I sincerely hope this doesn't become a permanent part of life here.
I agree with the entrepreneurial spirit of the independent dispensaries and growers. Power to them.
The key word in your mask story is 'cultural'. I believe the mask has literally become a part of Thai culture. The mask is revered, worshipped, respected, and deemed necessary, for any and all human interactions - by a majority of new normal disciples.
The push in 2022 for cannabis decriminalization was led by the former Health Minister Anutin ("Beware those dirty farangs") Charnvirakul, a real piece of work.
The drive in 2024 to recriminalize cannabis, led by the PM, is being supported by the current head of the Interior Ministry, who is ....... Anutin ("Kick those unmasked farangs out") Charnvirakul.
but...hey... i miss the commenters who call me names , while pointing out the many successes of the awakened ones ( guesses to the percentage of humans in that category are welcome)
and how about some lists : 1. heroes who are forging ahead in the fight for freedom ( pls state whether still alive or not ) 2. anecdotal (personal) stories of how you manage to stay upbeat and cheery in this dystopian net (mushrooms? ) (meditation?) (masturbation ? ) (mumbling to yourself while walking in public ? ) (minding TO your own business ....... my favorite , as the direction we have been heading still looks pretty damn bad 555)
And.............. you do the hanky panky , and shake em all around
that's what it's all about !
"depending on the time of day " shows one thing ....... you are doing a good job of living in the present . As the years go by , only the stages of the play and the scenery change... ..
i will not comment on the last "few acts " as one begins to see the curtain falling and the letters coming off the big Marquee . My conception of a well used life is one that has many, many adventures, twists and turns, and the freedom and guts to take some chances .
(But that's only what i think .... quote R Brand 55 )
I for one will not be "regretting i had done more" ..............
Get out of those condos, boys and girls . Maybe even leave your internet connections .
See and live things .......without all the nudges , grudges, and fudges
Bro, everything in this excellent rundown is Thailand asf. Just a perfect encapsulation, especially the re-criminalizing weed thing. really makes me miss the nonsense in LOS wonderland actually
Yup, never a dull moment here Ben. Hope to see you here before the year is out. Looking forward to rainy season - then it's Russian roulette time to avoid getting electrocuted by live wire cables dangling in the flooded streets. Sanook!
“Covid-19 is not a common cold. It’s not flu." Lol. No, it's definitely neither of those things. It's imaginary. Like unicorns: a fantasy.

Good point, Xenophobic Anutin always deserves a mention . We Farangs are "dirty and dangerous"!

It's all a matter of perception / optimism / pessimism / realism / idealism / hopium. In varying quantities depending on the time of day.
