Again I'm reminded of Frank Herbert's prescience in creating a future world in which computers are outlawed. And again I'll say that civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. These worthless pigs are driving civilization full speed over a cliff.

I *knew* that crap about AI scanning people's brains for images and then reproducing it was bullshit the minute I read about it on another Substack. There is no way they're putting all that time and effort into helping quadriplegics read, or whatever the pretext was supposed to be. "Help the handicapped," or something. It's *obviously* a way to snoop in people's brains, and I said at the time that the human race is going to regret the day that "AI" came to mean something besides artificial insemination. I know that image reproduction from thoughts isn't exactly what's being described here, but the point is that AI has never been anything other than a way for psychopaths to pry directly into other people's minds.

The other day I downloaded Mullvad VPN and, as has happened every other time I've tried to use a VPN, I never got past the download phase. I ended up deleting it because the first thing that happened was my desktop wallpaper went away and was replaced by the generic factory background. What else is going to happen that I won't be able to fix? Without someone knowledgeable *in the room with me* to walk me through computer crap, I'm almost immediately overfaced by all the jargon. The VPN websites always sound like they're aimed at professional hackers, not schmucks who can barely find saved emails. Mullvad tech support emailed back pretty quickly with some breezy instructions about "the terminal app," like everybody knows what that is. It took four more emails and a web search to figure out what that even is and how to get to it. Eventually I decided it was all way over my head and the log-in files or whatever TF will just have to stay on the computer forever. I did manage to drag the icon into the trash bin, though, so yay me.

I agree that all the neuralink stuff is the thing edge of the wedge. I have written about that before echoing your sentiments...

That is strange that installing Mullvad changed your desktop wallpaper etc. I've used Nord VPN, express VPN, proton VPN and many others - but was always concerned about them logging activity. Check out Mullvad's blog posts - they are firmly pro-privacy and anti-establishment and centralisation. I hope you can get a working solution with a few tweaks. It's a shame that we have to increasingly go out of our way to disable default snooping settings with Windows etc, and become more tech-savvy in order to protect our data and our right to privacy.
